Miner's Lettuce

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Claytonia perfoliata. I was in the front yard waiting for my wife to come home and decided to see what I could find looking down with a cell phone camera. This patch of miner’s lettuce extends for several feet along the front of our garage and pops up in other places on the property (it seems to like decaying sunflower seeds by bird feeders). I haven’t identified the intruder in the upper right or the bug in the upper left.

Specific Feedback

Does the pollen and dust detract too much from the image (rain today, so I might be able to get a good clean image this afternoon).

Technical Details

Samsung Galaxy S24 ultra, hand held, 7.9 mm, f/2.4, 1’160, iso 50. Minor cleanup, mostly a clot of grass from mowing in the middle and some edge patrol. Highlight reduction to avoid blowing out the blossoms and brought up shadows to reveal the leaves underneath better.

Dennis, the repeated leaf shapes and the flower center “dots” keep this interesting throughout the frame. The pollen and dust seem quite natural and draw very little attention, even in the largest view. The posts by you and @Chris_Baird have inspired me to post my own looking down view because there are lots of interesting things going on down there…

Dennis: Frame filling fantastic. Love the edge to edge sharpness from the DOF the phone can provide. Nicely seen and captured. >=))>

Very pleasing, Dennis. This is the sort of shot a phone does a great job with.
