Moss and a few companions

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was out waiting to help my wife unload groceries when she returned and played with the phone for last weeks challenge. I have a fondness for moss which is good for the psyche when you live on the wet side of the mountains here. I was attracted to the mosaic look caused by the “cracks” in the moss cover in this area. This is pretty much out of the phone with a touch of topaz detail and removing one stray grass bit entering the frame.

PS: If you’re ever in the Puget Sound/Salish Sea area and you’re into moss check out the moss garden at the Bloedel Reserve-it’s awesome.

Specific Feedback

Does anyone else find this interesting. I deliberately left the stray bits in the image as I found they added interest-does that work for you or would you prefer a pristine patch?

Technical Details

Samsung s24 ultra, 7.9 mm, f/2.4, 1/580, iso 50. Processed in PS CC.

I ignored this first time round, as the thumbnail does not do it justice (does it ever?). Now that I check it out, I find the random “stray bits” really make this photo for me. In fact,if you were to increase the contrast to a less “natural” degree (and darken the moss just a bit), it might be an even more interesting scene. I love moss, but I don’t think the moss here would do much if it was on its own.

Dennis, I think it’s cool, and the stray bits make the shot.

This has to be seen in the larger version. I thought it was dried mud in the small thumbnail version! Really neat find and capture.

A neat image, Dennis. My preference would be to remove the leaf on the left and all the greenery, as they tend to draw the eye. Otherwise, the eye can just drift around the image. I could see this being an arial view of a forest.

Dennis: Edge to edge sharpness and the little details are marvelous. Well seen and very nicely captured and presented. >=))>
