Moon Moth

Image(s)

Image Description

Actias gnoma is the smaller of the two moon moth species found in Korea, with a wingspan of 70-100mm. I found this one asleep in the woods the other day; it thought it was well concealed low down under a leaf.

How do you find the composition?

I tried to capture the attractive green of its wings when adjusting the tones. It looks accurate to me. Lowered the highlights in some of the BG bokeh balls with the Adjustment Brush in LR. Rotated and cropped.

I probably would have walked on by thinking it was just another leaf under another leaf. It still looks like that to me. Well presented camouflage image. I also like that you have toned down some of the bokeh balls. The composition is fine with me. Some may find it a bit too tight, but that just demonstrates the ability of the moth to conceal itself (can’t see it at a distance or up close).

very nice presentation of the moth’s camouflage… it conveys the sense of how difficult it can be to see them, and how similar they are to the leaves… I like the background, I agree with Jim that it could be toned down a little. I like the composition!

I like the composition and how you’ve created a whole “leaf” out of the shelter and the moth. My only time seeing and photographing one was in a similar position. They are so wonderful and only live as adults about a week. I guess having no mouth or digestive organs will do that to you. Maybe a tiny bit more room on the left…it feels a tiny bit cramped although I do like the square aspect of that side of the photo.

Mike: What a great encounter and a fine capture of this leaf . A touch more room would be my only suggestion but this works well for me as is. Well done. >=))>
