The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Photographed in Finland on a near full moon night. Unlike Lofoten, Norway, there arent many cabins like this to better tell the story. Nonetheless took advantage of a few good nights!
Specific Feedback
Inadvertently i shot this in JPG - by default my Z9 is set to shoot in RAW. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Does anyone have any idea as to how I may have accidentally changed this ?
Please feel free to make any other suggestions
Technical Details
Foreground 10 secs - ISO 800 - moon near full at the horizon
Sky 4 seconds to get detail in the auroras

A wonderful catch! That must be incredibly clear air, for the sharpness and detail going all the way to the horizon. Sad to discover you were set to JPEG capture. The tonal quality looks good but the camera’s denoise has created worms in the sky. I wonder if some of the programs that claim to clean up JPEG artifacts would do anything for it?
I like the composition here with the building being balanced by the bushes in the foreground. You also did a great job blending the images together. Too bad about the JPG. I have a Z8 and the only thing I can think of is that maybe your second card is set to JPG and either your first card was filled up or missing? This has happened to me. I now make sure I set everything to RAW only and have the second card set to overflow.
One thing I think might be an improvement would be to try to straighten the verticals on the building and the trees on the left. You can try this with Vertical slider in the Transform section of Lightroom, or maybe the warp tool in Photoshop. It’s not tilted very much, but I think the diagonal white lines on the right side of the cabin are accentuatinf the tilt to the right. It was distracting to me anyway. Hope this helps!
My cards are set to overflow - and set to raw - I think i do “something” inn the dark that changes the settings - i noticed the aperture changing at times - this can be explained by inadvertently using the subcommand dial.
I can try to correct the perspective more - the problem to keep in mind is the shape of stars
If you haven’t seen it already, I would recommend watching Hudson Henry’s videos on setting up the banks on the Z9:
The Puppet Warp tool in PS allows you to localize what you decide to straighten. It’s a little tricky at first, but it does work great! Here’s a video that explains how it works:
