Moose Couple In Fall Colors

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image was taken about 3 months ago in Grand Teton National Park on my Fall colors trip. The colors were just starting to peak 0in different areas around the park and my goal was to shoot wildlife during peak Fall colors. I was lucky enough to happen on a medium sized male moose, along with a female and her yearling. In this shot the yearling was off eating while mom and the male were contemplating what happens next.

Specific Feedback

Is the OOF left side of the image a distraction when comparing it to the right side of the image?
Is it too busy?
Do the colors seem about right?

Technical Details

Nikon Z8, 100-400mm lens, ISO 2000, 270mm, F/7.1, Manual exposure, 1/80 second. I had to shoot them while they were not moving. Hand held.

Didn’t even notice it until you mentioned it, and IMO it’s not an issue.

Very nice capture!

I really like this, David! The colours are very nice and the moose are perfectly framed by the foliage and because the OOF area on the left acts as part of the framing it isn’t obtrusive in the least. Nicely done, IMO.

I’ll admit I didn’t even notice the cow in the thumb. I was mesmerized by the decorations all around. No way it’s too busy for me. Looks like a magical jungle… I don’t see many photos of these in such a colorful tangled mess. Love it.

Great environment & wonderful subject ! I may increase the contrast a touch in the standing Moose.

It appears that most of you didn’t even notice the OOF left side of the image. That works for me.
I guess it’s not too busy either. So much for my concerns. Thanks again everyone. I do appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Excellent capture. Reminds of Maine in the fall. The only thing I would consider would be to bring up some mid tone textures on the bull. Not bothered by the OOF left area.
