The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
From my recent Fall colors trip I was lucky enough to encounter several bull moose in the rut with pleasing Fall colors as the backdrop. This male was scenting a female moose and would walk around with nose to the ground and every once in a while pop his head up. He was pretty oblivious to the photographers that were photographing him with much more interesting things on his mind. I was able to finally capture him in an open vegetated field with trees turning color in the background and his head turned to the side.
Specific Feedback
this is almost full frame width cropped from the bottom slightly and significantly from the top. Do you like the pano feel of this?
Are the colors about right?

I do like the “cinemascope” cropping, and the subject and its background. I have spent considerable time up in New England looking for this very subject in the fall. Never had any luck. You did it!
Wow! This is magnificent. The autumn colours make the perfect stage for the moose. The red and dark tree on the RHS sort of act as an eye stopper and send me back to the moose. There’s lovely detail in him. The very shallow DOF is the icing on the cake for me.
I like the pano. If I could suggest anything it would be for just a little more room on the bottom to allow for his “virtual” legs. Is that such a thing? Just thinking out loud.
Such a gorgeous combination of animal and autumn environment. I thought the same as Glennie about space for the “legs”, adding some canvas below. To my eye this would create a better balance of FG and BG too. You caught the bull in a great pose!
It’s a really good shot David, the head is turned just enough to see an eye. But it’s the crop and the fall colours that make it for me. I like both of the crops but I think that the second one is slightly better with a little less out of focus foreground.
What a great image David! It really showcases the best things about autumn. I’m really enjoying the OOF grasses in the foreground – they add a great deal of depth and in my opinion make it a much more interesting image that if the moose’s legs were visible. As for the crop, I think the panoramic aspect ratio is great, but I really don’t have a preference on which version is “better”. To me both are equally good so it would depend on where this image was to be displayed or printed.
David, this is an excellent look at this Moose surrounded by fall colors. The pano crop looks good, especially with the extra canvas. The textures in his fur add interest in the largest view.
I didn’t take time to look at this one earlier but have to pop in with some added praise. The pose and the setting and both wonderful! I love the RP with the added room on the bottom. The pano crop emphasis where his attention is going. (Hope he had some luck!)
David: I don’t get over here very often but this image really caught my eye. A marvelous subject in a wonderful environment and you’ve presented it really well. Top notch shot in every way.>=))>
Sorry about the late response here but I’ve been in Yosemite for a few days without access to internet. Thank you @Bill_Fach , @Dennis_Plank, @Diane_Miller, @glennie, @Mark_Seaver, @Tom_Nevesely, @Ryan_H, @JRajput, @Mike_Friel, @Dave_Douglass for your thoughtful comments and suggestions.
And thanks very much Jagdeep for the EP!
Thank you Glennie for the suggestion to add in some leg room to the canvas. Good thoughts and it appears everyone liked the revision.
Diane, I’m not sure if he had any luck with his venture seeking out a female but it sure looked like he was on the prowl.
