More bluebird action

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The bluebirds continue to deliver meals to the chicks in our backyard box. I like the spread wing position in the first image so I thought I’d share.

Both are superb flight shots, Allen, but that first is just wonderful. Very well done. Are you preset on the flight path to the box?

Thanks Dennis.
I focus on the box hole area to start with and then don’t engage autofocus as I’m shooting. The area in front of the box is mainly in my viewfinder. I start shooting when I see a bluebird approaching the box.

Sounds like good technique. The f/13 seems to be a good choice for depth of field at that focal length.

That first image is really something, Allen. Not sure I’ver ever seen such detail in the underwing coverts and axillaries (I had to look that up). I read your explanation to Dennis, but I’m amazed you can get such detail without actually focusing on the bird.

Holy cow! Stunning. Absolute crackers.

No nits. Wonderful detail, great background, wonderful poses. As Allen mentioned, so much detail without focusing on the bird. Something to try.
