Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Bushtits rarely stay still long enough to capture, so I was excited when this one landed and stayed still briefly. Sometimes it’s all about the challenge!
Specific Feedback
I’d be interested in feedback on the composition and whether this image is anything more than a competent version of “bird on a stick.”
Technical Details
Canon R6 ii, Canon 100-500L lens @ 500mm
1/250 second @ f/7.1, ISO 100
Edited in LR Classic, masked the background and reduced the exposure a bit to make it less prominent; masked the bird and added texture and clarity; added a slight vignette using the paint overlay option.

Hi Lisa, to my eye, the interesting perch, complementary background, and sharp bird with a nice view of the eye make this a compelling image. You could play with some different crops but I like this as presented.
Lisa, this image caught my eye from the thumbnail. The perch is attractive and of interest by itself and the combination with the Bushtit makes for a compelling image. The background is both complementary and contrasting. I agree Bushtits don’t hold still very long and usually I find them upside down, so this is a very nice pose of one. I could see a slight crop from the left.
I think this is an excellent bird on an excellent stick with an excellent BG!! The eye is compelling and there is very lovely detail in the bird. My only suggestion would be a closer crop to show off the bird and the plant just a little more.
