Mount Batterbee

Image Description

Mount Batterbee is in the middle of northern South Australia. We were there at the wrong time of day to get the really soft desert colours.

Hi Glennie - this still turned out very well. The “mount” and the areas around it have many places for the eye to explore. The brown, red, and beige colours are very complimentary, and set off well by the blue sky.
Well-done!

Very interesting formation with good detail. Definitely a subject for a pano! I love the clear air that lets me see to that distant horizon.

A very interesting formation, Glennie. It really shows the geology and the color palette and bright light evoke desert quite nicely. Soft light and deserts don’t really connect in my mind very well. I can’t remember who it was, but we had someone from real desert country on NPN who noted that his “Golden Hour” lasted about two minutes.

Glennie: Neat scene and wonderful FG colors. One thing I find with a lot of panos is the tendency to put the horizon line in the center. For me this gives the sky too much of the frame, especially since it’s pretty featureless. Tilting the camera down to put the horizon line at the top third line or even above a bit would work better for me. Still a place I would like to see and a fine capture. >=))>

Thanks @Bill_Fach ! Tilting the camera downward is something I rarely think of. Something to remember. The original image had more foreground than this.

Glenys, I agree with Bill in that it’s the colors and details in the foreground that grab my attention and lead my eyes to the mountain. I’m also impressed with how isolated this single peak seems to be. I could also see not having the mountain centered, but that really depends on what’s in the foreground and off to the left.
