Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

Sojka River, Bovec, Slovenia.

Just before sunset our family briekfly visited Slap Boka, (“Slap”, meaning waterfall), a lofty waterfall 3/4 the way up a mountain with the longest drop of anywhere in the tiny country of Slovenia. We were on a week’s holiday after returning to the hire car, we decided to go down to the Sojka river with its white limestone beach and rolling turquoise rapids much adored by kayakers. The extremely cold water hits warm moist air above, causing mist to rise off the surface skimming the trees with dusk fast approaching and a glimmer of colour just painting the blue mountains I grabbed this shot just as the clouds turned pink. I love the mixture of cold and warm hues it produced.

I’m always a big fan of the warm/cool combo in an image and thus is no exception. I also like the effect the 0.6 ss has on the water. Top notch.

I agree Ian, the mix of colors is very nice. There are a lot of nice pastel colors in there. The fog on the far river bank and the clouds stacking around the mountains is special, with a lovely “gentle” vibe going on.

For me, although the foreground elements provide strong framing they are not as enchanting as the beauty in the distance. This is an “I wonder” image. In this case, what the scene would have been like if you could have flown a drone past those foreground elements to get a wider view of that beauty behind?
