Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Here are a pair of CA quail that were recently scratching around in our backyard. I liked how I was able to get the stance of both of them. Tells a little story to me.

Specific Feedback

Cropping about right?

Interesting poses and a nice low angle, Dave. For my taste the frame is a bit tight on both sides and the top.

The low angle provides a very nice, large presence to the quail, Dave!

The lighting is great and the DOF works well for putting most of the emphasis on the main character!

I also like the soft green BG with a pleasing amount of soft bokeh.

Love the feather patterns and the head plumage on these birds!

Well done, Dave!

I didn’t mention it but this pair was really close for this pose so I didn’t have much room for a bigger crop. I had too much glass for the shot as it turned out.

Hi Dave, focus looks spot on with the front bird nice and sharp. I’m fine with the cropping as it looks like a wider view might bring in distracting elements on the right. I like the pose of the front bird too - interesting catch.
