Muddy Perch

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I consider ducks to be urban critters. Wherever there is a pool of water, you can observe them swimming, grooming, or simply soaking in the sun.

A nice stretching pose and beautiful light Laura. Interesting observation about ducks being urban wildlife. I’ve certainly seen them in urban settings, but not living in an urban area, I guess it just never occurred to me to think of them that way.

Hi Laura, love the play of light in this image and the stretching pose. The strewn feathers help add to the scene. Nice image.

Hi Dennis
Thanks for your insight. I might have stretched the theme

Thanks Allen, Really appreciate your encouraging words. I love the foot covered in mud:rofl:

Laura, you’re right, Ducks (especially Mallards) are regular urban wildlife. In springtime Washington DC, it’s common to see video of traffic being stopped on major downtown roads while a Mallard and her chicks cross the road…You may ask Why??? and, of course, we know the answer…

The lighting is great, as is her stretching post.

It’s routine for posters to “stretch” the Challenge topic, including myself.

I like how the duck stands out against the black background, Laura, and the detail is excellent as well as showing the wing patch. Looks like a nice perch and I could see bringing up the shadows a bit on it. Based on my experience, if there’s a pond in the urban/suburban setting, mallards are a common visitor.

Very cool that you caught the bird preening, rather than just standing there. It gives insight to bird behavior,And I love the black background!

Thanks for the poetic license Mark:)

The late afternoon sun cooperated. I underexposed on purpose, but I too, like the contrasting effect of a dark background.

I just saw this (got behind again) but have to pop in with added praise for a very cool image. And congratulations on the EP!

We’re not exactly urban where we live, and there are good ponds in easy flying distance but a pair of Mallards started hanging out in a neighbor’s pool last summer! We were all hoping for babies in their landscaping but it wasn’t to be.
