The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Due to the lack of rain in 2024; where I live in MD; the leaves basically dried up and dropped before producing any vibrant autumn color. This forced me; which was probably a good thing; as it made me look for something a bit different such as scenes like this one. This is not far from my house on some land that had been quarried over the years. This particular spot is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Specific Feedback
I was captivated by the subtle autumn colors; although there is certainly something to be said for the bold in your face ones. This just had a nice peaceful vibe to it that I found relaxing. Does that mood come across to you? Is there enough here to keep your interest?

The overall muted light works very nicely here, Ed. As extremely busy as this natural scene is the detail is excellent in every piece of foliage and ground cover throughout. Testimony to the original captured image in the end…
Hi @Ed_Lowe, I really like the gentle tapestry of color you have shared with us. The true to the scene palette gives the eye many wonderful fine detailed nuances to explore.
Classic @Ed_Lowe image here! Wonderful soft light, a kaleidoscope of subtle colors and a composition that places all of the elements exactly where they should be. Love it!
Ed, this looks great, I especially like the bits of water near the bottom. While they would make exploring a challenge, they add well to the invitation to explore…I’ll bet they get frogs and toads mating in the spring. You’ve captured the transition from open to shrubs to small trees fully here.
Ed: Wonderful color palette and marvelous details superbly captured and rendered. I find @Mark_Seaver comment interesting as I find that one fairly large pool a bit of an eye magnet. The smaller aquatic areas don’t distract me as much. Good eye and good on you for making a fine image from what some would consider meh subject matter. >=))>
Thanks for your thoughts everyone @Paul_Breitkreuz, @guy, @Bret_Edge, @Mark_Seaver and @Bill_Fach; always appreciated! This is a nondescript area; lined with no trespassing signs from a quarry; along along the sides of a country road. The area is slowly regenerating itself with brush and small trees. Over the last few years I have gotten several images from this area in the early spring and fall that I am quite happy with. They are not wow images, but I find them to be contemplative and serene.
This image does show how well the area is reclaiming itself. It has a painterly feel to it. Not sure why but it works well for me. I don’t think fall colors have to be in your face vibrant. The more I think about Fall colors the more I like renditions just after peak prime when the colors are not so bold. this is just like that. There is plenty of color mixed through out the scene and I like the image as is.
I think next time there might be an image or two past the wet foreground and into the shrubs and trees in the background. I love the bare trees and the undergrowth back there and I think there is something there.
I love the kaleidoscope of colour here combined with the edge-to-edge textures. It’s a busy composition and yet everything feels like it is in its place and the image has a nice harmony. I like this a lot and for nature lovers like me it’s a balm for my soul.
