My first Pipevine Swallowtail

Pipevine Swallowtails are moderately hard to find in suburban MD due to habitat destruction. This is my first photo of one and I’m amazed at how colorful these butterflies are, especially the iridescent blue abdomen. (R5, 100-500 @ 400, 1/800 s, f/10. iso 800, tripod)

Terrific capture, as always, Mark. I love when that blue on their abdomen is evident, but it requires just the right light angle for it to show up. Glad you got to see and photograph a Pipevine. They are truly colorful, beautiful butterflies.

Wonderful composition and detail! The thistle nicely complements the cyans on the butterfly.

Mark, this is one beautiful butterfly, and captured so well. Nothing to offer for improvement on this shot.

Hi Mark, congrats on getting this species and capturing the underwing so well - they always seem to be madly flapping when I view them. Nice background too. I find the out of focus thistle in the foreground rather distracting but I know how hard these guys are to catch in a good pose.

Great photo and the over all comp. The details are very sharp
