During our stay in Great Smokey Mountain National Park, I got introduced to Native American Trail Marker Trees. These were carefully shaped by the native tribes to point towards important locations or as trail signposts. In this case, a sapling was bent over and held in place with rawhide with side shoots left to grow upwards. As I looked a bit further it turns out trees shaped by the natives are found throughout north america.
That is so interesting - I didn’t know about marker trees. Will have to keep a look out for them.
I hadn’t known about this, so thanks for sharing it. I’ll keep an eye out for these native sign posts.
A very interesting narrative and a nice photo to go along with it.
