Nature abstract

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was photographing ice that had great color contrast between blue parts and orange parts lit by the setting sun. I was not fully satiesfied with the final image, but soon realized that it could become a decent abstract if duplicated and combined symmetrically.

Specific Feedback

Any comments are welcome to improve this abstract.

Technical Details

OM System OM-1 camera with 40-150 f2.8 lens @ 110 mm (220 mm equiv.), 1/25 sec., f/10, ISO 200 (base ISO), tripod, remote release

Looks like a monster contemplating my tastiness or lack thereof, Ola. The colors are really cool but I can see how the balance might have made it difficult to find a good composition in the original image. The duplicating and flipping worked very well to come up with an interesting abstract.

I had the same reaction as Dennis - it looks like a monster readying to swallow me. The colors are beautiful. The corners feel off, though, with the tan color and different texture. Since this is totally abstract, maybe a strong vignette would work.

As an aside, have you seen the video of the whale swallowing the kayaker? (he didn’t get hurt) It’s been in the news, and your image brought it to mind. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
