Under layers of dead leaves and surrounded by dying ferns, this small survivor manages to pop up every fall. Standing about 2" tall, it manages to spread its spores before returning to its underground home. Hopefully, next year it will have neighbors.

Fall mushrooms are often a surprise. This pair looks tiny surrounded by the mix of fallen leaves and dying ferns. The wetness is god for the mushrooms.
Charlie: Cool subjects and I love the overall color palette. I would be tempted to crop this tighter. The large OOF leaf in the ULC is an especially strong eye magnet for me as are the really bright green leaves along the top. Like @Mark_Seaver I hope these give you many seasons of observation. >=))>
