Night Heron In Morning Light

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image was taken from a bridge above the rookery. Creating from above is a whole new vision.
I have just returned from a six-week trip on the east coast of the US. This image was in NJ.

Specific Feedback

Trying to learn to balance the white detail. I wanted detail in the black and white feathers.
Thoughts of the top down angle.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve: I like the way you handled the exposure. The whites are nicely bright and the blacks on the top of the head are rich and deep. I don’t mind the top-down angle, though I’ve photographed in enough refuges where that’s all you can get that I don’t particularly enjoy doing it that way myself. The morning light here is gorgeous. I don’t know if you were using a zoom lens but a little more room around this bird would be nice. To me he feels rather crowded in the frame (However, I know plenty of people who like it that way).

Nice catch Steve with fine light. Details look really good as does the exposure. Wishing for a better look at the eye but of course they don’t always cooperate. I 'm fine with the crop especially with all the foliage up close around the bird. Nice capture.
