Nighttime Thunderstorm

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

After driving in to Yellowstone for sunset colors that didn’t happen, I saw this thunderstrom growing in the east. This was nearly an hour after sunset, but a long exposure captured plenty of detail in the view across Swan Lake flats and the Blacktail ridge area.

Specific Feedback

I was/am pleasantly surprised at how much detail shows in the clouds.

Technical Details

R5, 100-500 @ 167, 2.5 s, f/16, iso 400, tripod.

Wonderful clouds, with lovely shape, detail and color, presented in a very nice FG composition. And wonderful tonal separation in the midtones in the hills. I’m surprised you were able to get that so long after sunset. Long exposures can be amazing.
