Storm Coming

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Driving across central Montana where there’s a mix of mountains and plains, the weather turned stormy. I took this 4 shot pano to capture the mix of wide open prairie, distant mountains and approaching storm. There was some green in the landscape, but the overall colors were very limited, making it natural an easy conversion to black and white, which helps emphasize the cloud structures. The distant moutains are the Big Belt Mountains.

Specific Feedback

I went wide to capture the angry sky and the extent of the storm while trying to balance the sky and the land.

Very dramatic clouds, well-framed with the minimalistic landscape. Great subject for a pano and great choice for a B/W.

Love this image. Well suited to B&W. The only thing I would look at changing might be to crop some meat off of the RH.

Mark - I spend a lot of time in the Big Belts and enjoyed seeing this image of them! I’ve been studying your picture and have to admit that I can’t tell where exactly this is, but my guess is it’s somewhere near the southern end of the range. You don’t need to tell me. I just like wondering about it, and I could be way off, too. Anyway, it’s a very dramatic scene and you definitely captured the mood of an impending storm.
