The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve been watching and photographing this hawk for a couple of weeks now. I’m learning her habits, favorite perches, and flight tendencies. Pretty fun. She’s starting to feel comfortable around people so I can get some closer images.

Specific Feedback

I know, boring sky…I’m hoping the light on the bird counters that sky…thoughts?

Technical Details

Nikon Z 8, 800mm, 1/2000 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 1000. I had the high shutter speed in order to get in flight shots…

Hi, David - great light, bright red eye, nice perch, fine detail = sky unimportant!
Great catch! Your patience is paying off!

Very cool capture. Love it. I would be tempted to remove some meat on the right a make it a square crop to see how that’d be, if it were mine. I really like how the brown textures work on the perch and the subject.

Wonderful opportunity and it looks like you’re making the best of it! Wonderful sharpness and detail and an exquisitely-matching perch!! I’m guessing you might have some nice light with some interesting clouds when the current monsoon season ends.

@SandyR-B, @Dave_Douglass, and @Diane_Miller thank you for the comments and suggestions. Dave, I’ll take a look at a square crop, thanks for suggesting it. Diane, yes, I hope to get some better skies in the next few weeks…who knows.

The sky doesn’t matter in this image, David. For some reason the square crop feels a touch tight on the top, though it has the same room as the other. If you want a square I’d enlarge it a bit to the top and right. Other than that a very fine image of this harrier.

Thanks @Dennis_Plank, I get what you mean about the tightness. I think I prefer the original crop…Will swap them up top…

I agree with Dennis on this one and that the crop should be a looser. Nice detailed image though. Don’t worry about the sky

This is really nice. I also think it needs a bit more room such as the attached. Hope you don’t mind. Nice light, color, detail and cool pale lavender BG.

Great look at the harrier, David. Good pose and detail and I like the perch. No problem with the sky. I prefer the original crop-gives the harrier more room to look into.

@David_Schoen , @Ed_Williams, and @Allen_Brooks thank you for the kind comments and suggestions. Ed, the extra space helps a lot thanks.

Cheers,
David
