Northern Harrier

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was reviewing some of my “in flight” images and realized I had not processed or posted this image from an amazing day at the marsh watching a female Harrier and a young Peregrine. I definitely wanted to share it. I love the stare down eye contact and the smooth power through the shoulder and fore-wings. It was the closest I have been to this or any other bird of prey on the wing.

Stephen: Wow! I think that you’d be hard pressed to find a better positioning of the bird and the eye contact is a big plus. No nits from me and this one is a wall hanger.

Just an amazing image! That stare and those eyes are exceptional. Exquisite detail as well. I love that the head is tack-sharp, while the rest is pleasingly blurred. That focuses on the head and eyes, which is ideal.
Very fine image! Well-done.

Awesome image, Stephen. This is one that just made me say WOW!!! when I opened it. That head on, in-your-face raptor look is just outstanding and the focus on the facial disc is awesome. A beautiful image. The only thing I can suggest playing with is moving her a bit higher in the frame. After looking at it for awhile, it gives a bit of the appearance of being below me and I think putting it just a bit higher might correct that impression.

Wow, a show stopper, and your handholding skills are enviable. Perfect face! I love these birds.
I agree with the other comment that perhaps adjusting the crop so there’s more sky below the bird than above it would be good, but honestly it probably wouldn’t have occurred to me without someone else noticing it.

Thanks for the comments and @Richard_Sandor @SandyR-B @JulieEdwardsViola @Dennis_Plank
Dennis, appreciate your input on moving the subject higher in the frame. I’ll do a repost. I like the difference it makes.
