Description

I spent 20 minutes photographing Hooded Mergansers, in the shadow of club house, behind the CT River. This was the best shot of the morning. Thank you for stopping by.

Other than being a fantastic capture, seeing the results of such a crop at ISO 10,000 is amazing.

Great work both behind the camera and keyboard!

I just love these little guys. They are so fun to watch and so dang fast. You got a nice male here in a wing flap. Good wing position and good detail. These are really hard to expose for since they have deep deep blacks and bright whites so I’ve found that unless it’s significantly overcast, you either blow the whites or blow the blacks. The problem with significant overcast is that you have to raise the ISO really high to get these little speed demons sharp. But, todays camera bodies are pretty incredible with what they can do and you show that in this capture. ISO 10,000! Nice.

Hi Peter, great catch! nice and sharp and love the wing flap. Well composed with the water droplets behind the bird and room to move in front. Nice frame!

Hi Jim, David & Allen
Thank you for the comments. The biggest problem I had photographing the Hooded Mergansers was the R5’s eye focus , it had a hard time focusing on the Hooded Mergansers eyes.

A great shot for any session, Peter. I always love this action when they bathe and it gave you the perfect angle, which you took full advantage of. Excellent work.

Great pose and nice work freezing the wings, Peter. Amazing how well the new cameras can do at these high ISOs.

Like the pose and water droplets. Nice and sharp. Well captured.

Hi Dennis, S Govindarajan & Allen
