Image Description

I am not a snow man. My country, Portugal, is very small, and in most of the country there is no snow. We have snow every year in two or three of the highest mountain ranges, but in general, most of the country does not have snow.
The storm “Ingrid” that crossed the country in recent days brought snow very close to my city, which is on the coast, so I took the opportunity to go and see and photograph some snow. As you can see from the photo, there wasn’t that much. In any case, it was a different day, with a beautiful morning alone in the snow until the expected invasion of hundreds of people who also wanted (with every right) to see the snow.

What I first noticed was duality of the colors. Warm in the foreground and cool in the background. Then I noticed the lack of snow in the background trees but I must admit, not until I read your statement. The snow almost looks blown onto the tree. That little bit of stream or pocket of water is a little bit of an eye grabber but it also adds a little mystique to this shot. Is it a small stream or is it just a pocket of standing water? I might be tempted to dodge that tree trunk on very left side of the image. Other than that I like this as is.

Hi Joao,
I quite like that oak tree and the light covering of snow on it as it stands out beautifully against the darker BG of trees. I like scenes like this that only have a few inches of snow as it affords some wonderful details for the viewer. That little bit of water with those light greens catches my eye a little. It is not a deal breaker, but I could see that cropped off or removed if you are so inclined. To answer your question; yes I see the duality of the image. Very nicely done.

Joao, your image conveys the wintry feel in a convincing way to me. The composition invites me to eyplore the whole frame.

Thank you all for your nice comments.
I believe that small stretch of water helps the composition; I think it gives it balance with the background, especially the areas of bright light, on the ULC
