The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
This image is a reminder that we haven’t had a significant snowfall since 2022 when the photo was taken. We now receive minor skiffs that don’t accumulate on the ground, but no significant falls such as that in the photo. Previously we had at least one major fall each winter.
Instead, we now get reminders about pre-winter flu’ and covid vaccinations!
Hi Marylynne. Thankyou. I really appreciate your comments as they are very thoughtful. It is a great help to receive such replies in addition to those of a technical nature. I tend to feel an image before capturing it and often (no…usually) make a technical hash of it because my mind remains on the feeling rather than the operation of a computer-oriented camera that I mostly don’t understand. I hope this makes sense..sort of.
Cheers. Phil
Thanks Michael. Yes, I was taken with the composition as soon as I saw it and was in a hurry to capture it before anyone could spoil it with their footprints. It was taken at St Bathans, the same location as the previous image I posted…but obviously at a different time of year.
Cheers

Hi Dennis. Thankyou for that. It was mostly the small snow drifts that caught my attention first, then I saw the shadow behind the fence so widened the view to capture that.

I very much like the light in this scene. There are so many shadows and highlights that give great depth to the scene. The chain linked wooded poles lead the eye through the scene nicely and break up all the snow with something that directs the eye. I think it would have been too much had more of the wooden poles been visible but those two in the front are just enough for me. I like the shadows creeping in from the top of the scene but I would crop out about a third of the scene up along the top mostly to get rid of that dark URC. You could always keep it and then just dodge it a bit. Just my thoughts though. Nice scene.
Hi David
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I see that area as being a bit darker, and now that I’ve seen it I can’t ignore it. I have posted an edited version that I can now look at without my eye moving directly to the URC. Cheers.
