Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The lobby of our Kona hotel was filled with orchids, and the wallpaper intrigued me. Always looking for something different, I moved the orchid in front of a patch of wallpaper.

Specific Feedback

Does the BG work here, or is it too distracting?

Interesting! I assumed it was a BG you had added in PS and was wondering how it would look flipped vertically. Scratch that… Otherwise, no suggestions. A gorgeous orchid with wonderful color and detail!

Beautiful job on the Orchid, Sandy, and the wallpaper makes an interesting background. I do notice some secondary texture in the wallpaper, but I doubt that it’s removable in processing.

That’s a very interesting combination, Sandy. The BG is discreet enough to go well with the orchids and I like the combination of colors. Most of all, I like how the curve of the stem opposes the curves of the wall paper - this gives the shot attractive tension. And all the blooms are very sharp. No probs with this shot.

This is a beautiful orchid with excellent color and detail. I like the artistic feel of the background, but it is a little busy and detracts a bit from the beauty of the orchid.
