Out of Here

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

It was cool enough the other day and I felt like sitting on a stool and trying to shoot some macro. I had seen some bees and butterflies around these flowering weeds so I got setup and tried my hand at it.

Specific Feedback

Nothing in particular. I just hadn’t been able to shoot lately and have anything worthy of posting in Macro.

Technical Details

Shot with Canon R5, HH, Canon 70-200 L 2.8 lens with polarizing filter on to calm the bright sun. Settings 1/640, f8 ISO (auto) at 1250. Cropped and light editing in LR.

How great was that, to catch him flying! So clear. It looks like he is headed for the flower right in front of him, In For A Landing. I like the BG and it looks like you had good lighting as well. The hot weather has really taken a toll on all of us.
I like it the way it is but I also think maybe cropping a little off the top, bottom and maybe the Rt. side wouldn’t be bad either. Maybe not? Still a great shot.
Thanks.

Nice catch of the bee fly, Shirley. I think I agree with John’s idea of taking a bit off the right and top-not sure about the bottom as I don’t want to disrupt the in focus flower head. Excellent work to get that critter in crisp focus.

The soothing power of nature photography, so glad you’ve got that in your life. I find that many times it not only connects me to the natural world, but gives me something technical for my over-burdened brain to focus on for a while. It’s like a relief valve. Glad you’re still inclined to shoot and share. Looks to be a valuable plant for pollinators.

Shirley, this is a great, in flight, catch. Sitting and watching (experiencing) has value even without getting any photos. I could see removing the oof whites along the top, but I like where you’ve placed the the leaves and flowers in the lower left. Welcome back!

Excellent shot of this bee focused and headed for his meal, Shirley. You have inspired me to get out more. As Kris said “the power of nature is so soothing.”…….and exactly what I need. Thank you for sharing this motivating photo.

Grreat to see you posting again -
Really nice catch of this bee in motion.
A slightly-tighter crop might work well here, too, perhaps cutting out the OOF upper white flowers and the lowest one.
Nice work!

Wow Shirley. It is amazing to get one of these in flight. I know, I was trying for a week in SE Arizona earlier this month to no avail. Nice focus on the flowers and the fly. I like the blurred wings showing motion in this too.

Shirley: I thought I commented on this earlier but I must have missed the submit button . Having had almost zero luck with flight shots of any kind I’m pretty impressed. Your patience certainly paid off. :+1: :+1:>=))>
