I was fascinated when a first saw these trees on San Juan Island in Washington state because they are so striking with their red, flaky bark. This is a crop of the original to minimize the surrounding foliage, which was too close to properly blur with a telephoto lens. Plus, I liked the bend in this particular trunk.
