Description
I was hiding in my bird blind this morning when I noticed these two House Finches in a small Live Oak off to one side. It is a tangle of limbs and leaves, mostly very unattractive, but when I saw they were in a clear area I swing around and got off some shots. I was already on 20 fps and eye-AF but light was dim and I had 1/250 sec SS so I only needed to hold my breath and hope to catch them not moving.

Minor tonal slider moves in LR. Into PS for Topaz Denoise, crop to about 50% and removal of some stray distractions at the edges.

Very cool image, Diane. This isn’t a behavior we get to see very often in this species. Your 1/250th worked just fine, with beautiful feather detail and no motion blur that I can detect. Very well done.
Your birds are well ahead of ours in Michigan. It snowed last night! Poses and lighting are excellent. The surrounding ))F vegetation frame the subjects nicely. I can’t find any nits for you…Jim

What a great moment to capture Diane. Way to be at the right place at the right time. All birds are fun to photograph…even the ones we see all of the time like house finches. I just love how crisp and clear this picture is. Thank you for sharing

Our introduced House sparrows look nothing like this. Well, maybe in shape, but certainly not that glorious red.
The behaviour is wonderful and often so fleeting. I was particularly drawn to the shape of the birds and their perches, making a frame within the frame. And then there’s the three green masses of leaves which I don’t believe would be accidental.
Thanks, @Glenys_Passier! I didn’t do any “flower arranging” here – the leaves were just that way. Guess it was a just package of luck, along with decent light!
