Pair of Great Horned Owlets

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was so excited to see these guys. This nest was at our hotel in Tucson and much-observed by the photographers at the conference I was attending. I never got a clear shot of both of them at once, and the pinecone is so big… This is the best shot I have though.

I’m a big fan of “peek-a-boo” images, so this appeals to me a lot, Debbie. The pine cone adds to the image in my opinion, but some of the bright foreground branches are a significant distraction. Ideally a different time of day with the light at a different angle might have worked a little better, but who knows if the owlets would cooperate. I think you managed about the best angle possible for this image, getting three out of four eyes visible and in sharp focus. Nice work and welcome to the Avian forum.

Cute shot. I like how the front owl is framed by the branches and the pine cone is centered over the forehead. Nice detail and the eyes are sharp.

Thanks! I visited their tree a number of times during the week and only got to see them twice, so I’m okay with a peekaboo shot

Thank you!

Hi Debbie
Any time you can get a photograph of Owlet, is a good day. As Dennis has pointed out the two branches need to be worked on, but the pine cone is ok because of the Owls very sharp eyes.
Have fun.

@Peter_Morrissey Thanks! I may work on the branches when I get back in town later this week.
