Palo verde trees

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There’s something about palo verde trees that sings to me, so I keep photographing them.

Specific Feedback

There’s nothing specific that I have doubts about with this one but others may see flaws I missed.

Technical Details

ISO 1600, 106mm, f/11, 1/320th. I’d been using a tripod but when I saw this I wasn’t sure I could get the tripod set up before the light changed, so I shot it handheld.

Flaws? None that I see. Would be interested in seeing the color version, unless it was shot in B&W.

Michael, I liked the shapes but the color version seemed like a mishmash.

Hi Don,
This is a wonderful example of organized chaos IMO. You filled up the frame beautifully and every corner has an interesting subject. The color version is nice, but I prefer the B&W. It just seems more graphic and has a wonderful ranges of tones. I am also enjoying the soft lighting as well. Nicely done.

Thanks, Ed. With this one, I had black and white in mind from the start.

The B&W works much better than the color. All those fine branches and grass just become texture in the B&W with the major branches forming the actual composition. Very nicely done.

That’s a good way to put it, Dennis. Thank you.

The b&w version - which I prefer - shows me and interesting dynamic composition. I especially appreciate the trunks providing a firm structure together with the delicate pattern of the foliage.

I sorta like the color one also.
