Past remains

An afternoon in the woods with bright sun leads to lovely long shadows. This is a frozen vernal pool with some leftover vegetation and a big rock. The snow wasn’t so deep as to erase the contours of the land below and I rather like the undulating shapes of the shadows.

Specific Feedback Requested

Tonalities were hard here, bright sun on snow and shadows - I wanted a softer look for this one. Does it work or too little punch?

Technical Details

Is this a composite: No
Handheld…I think.

Lr for a crop and the initial curves adjustments and some white balance correction. Radial filter to raise the exposure around the brightest area at the base of the plant. Ps for some distraction removal and further massaging of the tones with luminosity masking and finally a touch of a warming filter.

OMG, this is one of your best minimalist images, Kris. The shadows really highlight the plants and the light on the snow is sublime. Awesome.

Thanks @David_Bostock - it was certainly fun to compose. Glad the tonalities work for you. I waffled a lot over them.
