Patterns in wood

Image(s)

Image Description

I found this image on the shores Johnstone Strait off the northern part of Vancouver Island just east of Campbell River. I was on a kayak trip at the time. We went to Bute Inlet and saw bears, and the Holmalco Indian tribe. it was a pretty exciting trip and one needed to be very careful because of the bear’s. They would Rome through the area we were staying in the middle of the night. I did get some pictures of the Bears but that is not what this weekly challenge considers.

Pertinent Technical Details

I believe this is a 35mm slide that was scanned into a Nikon cool scanner.

David: I like the subject and comp but for me the sepia treatment is a bit too strong and I would like to see the shadows bumped up to increase the overall brightness a bit and bring out some more texture, especially around the knot hole at the top. Sounds like you had a great experience and I hope to see more from your trip. >=))>

David, I like the warm yellow tones and all of the structure. The juxtaposition of bright vs black in the two “eyes” near the top is interesting. I do wonder how clipping off the bits of black along the top would look.

Love the patterns in the wood, I don’t mind the yellow hues it already has a slightly surreal look to it, the additional saturation of the yellow hues does not detract for me personally.

here’s a rework

do you see the wormhole? Maybe if you went through it you wind up in a different galaxy?

Makes me think of an aerial photo of Yellowstone or a tidal basin. Very interesting patterns. I do like Bill’s suggestion about toning down the sepia.
