Little Storm Cloud

Image(s)

Image Description

Droft wood on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I happened across this log on my way back to my car after photographing rocks along the lake shore. The perfectly smooth wood of this weathered log pulled me in right away. Once I saw the swirling patterns in the knob of this driftwood, it reminded me of a storm cloud on a radar map.

Any thoughts on Composition? (Is the large hole near the top right distracting?) There was some dodging in LR. Did I go too far?

A real nice photo Todd. All those swirls and textures keep my eyes busy, and the main feature of that storm cloud in the middle pulls me into the image even more. Great find.

This looks very good, Todd. The extra twisty part in the center stands out well and triggers the imagination. The knot hole does get attention, but it also fits well with the rest of the scene. It is reminiscent of a storm cloud.

Todd: Aptly titled and very nicely presented. The knot hole works for me since you can still see some detail in the recesses. If it was a pure black hole it might be more troublesome but here it just looks like an especially intense storm cell within the greater expanse. Well seen and presented. >=))>

Good eye!! A very worthy capture and going B/W adds to the abstraction. I love the details and the composition! No suggestions.

This is fabulous Ted. I think the hole only adds to the intricate swirls and patterns in the driftwood. I think the high key treatment does give the effect of a topographical map.

Driftwood is very nice to photograph with all the inclusions and variations of the wood. From this angle, I always love the contours, and it reminds me of a topo map. I am a fan of monochrome when photographing this medium as I feel it really brings out the true character of the wood. Great composition and point of view.

The knot in the middle appears to be rising from the wood and the darker swirls look like waves crashing against the coast. Great Image!
