Description

The End of the Day. I shot this image South Beach Jekyll Is. I used the tree to block the sun and give me a place in time. My friend Ken and I wrote a piece of music Peace Ending. I plan on using some video and stills to make a Music /Image video in the future. A tribute to Ken. I lost him to cancer a few years ago. Cancer and I do not get along !!!

Specific Feedback

I did edit the colors on the stronger side but not much. could crop a little on the right. But this is how I shot it.

Technical Details

ISO 100 F22 Shutter 15 seconds. My cable was working … I then broke it packing up in the dark.
Edit in Photoshop using Vibrance to enhance my image…

Excellent image for my taste, Gill. I love the sunset reflections in the damp sand and the way it lights up the rest. The driftwood forms add a lot of interest for my taste.

This could go in the Landscape forum, if you like, Gil, since there’s no “hand of man” in it. Let me know if you’d like me to move it.

Thanks. Sure you can move it.
Glad you liked my image. My last post of Jekyll Is images. Peace Ending. End of the Day. Peace to our Planet.

A wonderful image – the color is striking without feeling overdone. You did very well in a difficult place!

Gill, the black driftwood works well at adding interest to this photo. While it does feel a bit oversaturated for a “traditional” landscape, the strong colors fit well with the wild shape of the tree and it’s blackness.

Wow. Thanks. That means a lot. :folded_hands::globe_showing_americas::folded_hands:

Gill,

I find this a very striking scene. I think the saturated colors are quite appropriate for what you’ve captured. You’ve done very well in creating this striking image with the old “driftwood” tree. I can easily see how you would be inspired to write words to a song. Very cool.

What I see is these tree and root base actually radiating around the sun; almost like an inverse sunstar. And with that, my feedback suggestion would be a square crop emphasizing that radiating feature. I tried and I think it works very well. I won’t post because I don’t always want to just suggest alternatives and let the photographer work out their own alternatives.

Regardless of any changes, I think this is a dynamic and powerful image.

Thanks. So Much. Feel free to post your vision of my image. The NPN is a place to learn and exchange ideas and share knowledge. Post it and share with all interested. :folded_hands::globe_showing_americas::folded_hands:.

My song is instrumental music. Fretless bass and lap steel. :guitar::globe_showing_americas::folded_hands::guitar::guitar::globe_showing_americas:

Thanks Gill,

Here ya go. I didn’t think, but this might no longer match to your music or intentions. Purely a pictorial alternative. I’m glad you are open to these suggestions. Thanks!

I actually wanted a perfect square ratio, but that wasn’t really working. I didn’t want to lose any more of the wonderful beach on the right. But also wanted to center the tree for that radiated look. Here’s the compromise.

Very Cool. I think your vision is Good and Gives another vibe to the image. Thanks so much for showing interest. The focus is more on the colors and the sunset … Great edit. Ill use both in my book. Thanks again

Mine and Ken’s song. Recorded quite a few years ago. Now I have two images to support our music. Ken would be very proud. Thanks again.

Beautiful music - thanks for sharing. Music can be very powerful. I wish I had another talent to accompany my images.. LOL

Hi Gill,
While I quite like this as is I think @Lon_Overacker’s crop nailed it as I think it places more of an emphasis on the gnarly shape of the tree and that flat out gorgeous light on the beach. It has created some wonderful details and textures in the sand. I am sure your friend Ken would be very pleased with what you are putting together. BTW; really enjoyed the music as it was very soothing and peaceful.

Thanks. The music now goes with my image as one. Thanks for listening

I really like your image Gill (and I enjoyed your music as well). With that said, I think @Lon_Overacker’s crop takes it to next level.

I’m typically running around trying to find views where the distant beauty isn’t blocked, but you’ve done a fine job of making the image better by breaking the “rules.” The tangled, almost web-like, roots backed by that color is both beautiful and intruiging.

Gill, this is wonderful! Excellent light, crop, detail, and subject. Your music is also mesmerizing - thanks for including that.
Congrats on a fine EP~

Thanks so much. That’s the goal. Image and Music together as one. I put image videos on YouTube. My music with old film and new digital photography. Good that it brought a smile. Peace :folded_hands::globe_showing_americas::folded_hands:
