Peregrine falcon on dirty rock

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

these were taken on a cliffside La Jolla California. Pretty much a given that Peregrine’s will be there if you go. Just don’t fall. Yes, parking is a problem. I don’t generally reveal where I take my pictures, but in this case, I made an exception because of the crowds at La Jolla.

Specific Feedback

anything that would help me as a photographer improve my skills

Technical Details

these two images were taken with Sony a7r4 and 400 mm telephoto plus 1.4 extender. Probably handheld. iso-3400, 800th, f5.6, it was rather dark and this is before the sun came up

I began experimenting with the color point tool in Lightroom classic. These images were a little difficult in that there was quite a blue cast. I worked for a long time to get rid of the blue cast, and I think I succeeded in general.

Since it was “blue hour” I’d expect a blue color cast, David. The birds in these look excellent. I do see some weird coloration that reminds me of an oil slick in the background of the first image, but the second image looks fine. Poses and detail in the birds looks excellent in both images.

Very nice!! Looks like a lot of meals have been consumed on that rock. The colors look good – obviously soft light with a nice color correction for deep shade.

I think these could make nice verticals with some taken off the left to balance the visual weight.
