If you are in the Sonoran Desert you are almost certain to see a lot of these. The males particularly like to perch very conspicuously.
Nice, Skip. I love the perch. You might play with taking a bit off the left and adding the same on the right to decenter the bird horizontally a bit more.
I grew up with these wonderful birds, but have never had the opportunity to go back and photograph them. Thanks for the closer view! All those “hairs” around its beak help explain its effectiveness as a fly catcher. I agree with Dennis about the small shift.
I can’t think of a species that looks better in nice, direct light with a blurred background. A lovely image.
