Image Description

I was photographing crystal glasses positioned on a brown plexiglass surface. My goal was to get an interesting reflection and sense of mystery. I used the PS Poster Edges filter on the image of the crystal and merged it with a blurred lace tablecloth image.

What an interesting image. So Good in B&W.. Very unique and really different. Yes !!! Lots of mystery… Breautifully done !!!

A very interesting image, Louise. I don’t know if you were trying to create some visual tension with the composition, but my head keeps focusing on the bit of empty space on the right and bottom when the left and top have things cut off. It’s exacerbated, I think, because the bottom right quadrant ins brighter than the rest of the image which also pulls my eye in that direction.

Fascinating idea!! I have the same feeling as @Dennis_Plank about the visual weight being at the top. Maybe a crop from the bottom to a little into the bottom edge of a glass and a slight gradient there? Or a gradient on a diagonal from the LR corner to darken a little and inverse the selection to lighten the UL? I think you have a lot of options to play with the treatment on the glasses and the BG. Fun!!

@Diane_Miller @Dennis_Plank @Gill_Vanderlip , Thank you all for giving me feedback on this image. Dennis, thanks for pointing out how the lights and darks are working. This is something I can keep in mind for my images. Diane, I will try a gradient. Thanks for your suggestions.

I think the others pointed out some of the things I was noticing. Only point I will add is the crop on the top. The round base of the glass on the upper left is a little off. I think there needs to be all of it. If you cropped it down, I then think the base of the glass on the right would be too tight to the edge. The split glass on the left I think is great, and balances the open area on the right. Fun, I hope you play with these ideas a bit more. A lot of possibilities.

Thank you for your comments! I am thinking to try some different compositions. That is the beauty of doing still life images at home. I can try again. I can see that it would be better to get a sharper image and perhaps just try a group of 3 glasses.
