Pond Landing #1

This Spring there was a shallow snow melt pond on a gravel pad alongside the road that goes around the boat harbor at Valdez, Alaska. When I drove by there were ~30 Arctic Terns splashing, bathing and just playing in the pond. I went by a little ways to get the sunlight behind me then parked, rolled down the window and started shooting. I took literally hundreds of photos and this is just one of those. Your vehicle is one of the best blinds available because the birds ignore it. If I had stepped out of my truck they all would have disappeared in a heart beat.

Great shot, Gary. You’re right about hiding in the car, great cover. Wonderful detail and handling of the all the whites in the Tern. Nicely done.
