Pounce

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is a coyote that I came upon in a field and was fortunate to get a shot of it initiating a pounce on something unseen. It came up empty.

Specific Feedback

I realize it’s an absolutely drab environment but I think the strength of it is in the subject, and its pose. Cropping okay?

Technical Details

Z9, 180-600 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, 1/2500th, f 10, 1050mm, hand held, cropped to 5511 x 3592

The action caught is enough for me – the BG could be more interesting but we usually don’t have a choice. The good part is that it isn’t distracting and is color-coordinated with the subject. They are beautiful when they pounce like that.

Dave - a great catch here, but I guess not for the coyote… he/she looks well-fed, though.
Excellent action and really nice detail. As Diane mentioned, the grass is not ideal, but that is where they HUNT.
Lovely!

Love the action & pose too !
It may benefit from boost in saturation.

Crop looks good to me - my understanding of the general rule is that you want to leave a little extra space in the direction they are moving. As others have said - the background is not distracting, so that is good. I’m jealous, I want to get a coyote photo - I see them every so often, but never with a camera in my hand or a good background!
