The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
In mid June, @Willemd and I spent a couple days in the Olympics National Park. Our fist stop was the Ho Rainforest Hall of Mosses.
Specific Feedback
This image was taken in the early morning and exposed for the bright light coming through the trees, which left the rest under exposed. I’m not sure I have the colors and lighting right, particularly around the ferns.
All comments are welcome.

Hi Steve,
This looks like some extremely tough lighting conditions. The Hoh Rainforest Hall of Mosses is on my bucket list if I ever make it out west again. The moss hanging from the trees is gorgeous as are the ferns. IMHO the greens look to be just a little on the yellow side; maybe it was just the morning light. I am not sure if you can do anything about it, but the light in the upper center trees still looks a little hot. Maybe trying to clone in those areas with a few of the darker leaves would work. There is also an area about the middle of the right edge of the frame that looks like lens flare; not sure what you could do about that. Looking forward to you sharing more from your trip.
You were really met with some challenging conditions here. I like the compostion and it looks like there was some nice glow in the BG and on various parts of the image. The ferns look alright imho, but the trees and moss I believe are kinda washed out from large amounts of shadow recovery. Looks like it would be an almost impossible exposure blend even with luminosity masks. still a very nice image.
That’s a lovely scene Steve. The composition is superb, with the ferns and trail guiding the eye to the amazing maples. The greens are so rich, really showing off what the Hoh has to offer. My memory is the vegetation wasn’t quite this nice when we visited?
I agree that this looks like tough conditions, especially the way that light is setting off the yellow. It’s likely how it was, but in an image it seems a little hot. It might be worth playing with knocking that back a little??
Thank you @Ed_Lowe, @Michael_Lowe, @John_Williams and @Igor_Doncov for you comments. Igor, I totally agree The Hall of Mosses Is a challenging. I’ve been there several times and this is the only image that has come close to a “good” photograph.
John, when we were there it was near noon in March of 2021 after our backpacking trip down the coast. The contrasts were too extreme, at least that’s my conclusion after going back through my photos. Of course I was also very tired after 3 days trudging through the sand. This shot was taken about 8:00 in the morning. I like the look you gave the image.
Michael, you are right about the trees and moss. I spent too much time working on them and almost decided not to post it as a result. If you do make it to the Hoh, visit the Hall of Mosses early. Not only are the photographic conditions better, but very few people will be there. We arrived about 7:30 and
the very large parking lot was almost empty. A couple hours later the lot was almost full, and hundreds were in the hall.
Ed, I agree that apparent lens flare does need more work, as does that hot light.
