Rainy Days

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This photo was taken in Yosemite on a particularly rainy day. To me, this image feels like a cozy winters night in the middle of the wilderness, the smell of rain and pine trees filling me with warmth.

Specific Feedback

I like the monochromatic color scheme and framing, but I’m not too certain about the framing of the pine needle, due to it being partially cut off. Overall, I like the moody feeling of this photo. I’d love to hear some of your thoughts and initial reactions!

Thank you, Gill! Yes, it was taken through the sunroof of a car while driving through Yosemite

I love those grab shots. I did one kinda like your last year. I fell and tore my arm all to pieces. It was raining and all I could was lift my phone and take a rain on windshield shot. I saw yours and really related to it. Way to Cool.
Beautifully Done.

Matthew,

Very cool - and kudos for always keeping the eyes keen on opportunities. for me, that pine needle really makes the image.

The cut-off pine needle doesn’t bother me in the least. It falls within one of my personal axioms, “if y ou’re going to cut something off, make sure it’s on purpose.” This looks like a purposeful shot, and not a grab shot really. In fact I was thinking this was shooting on to a reflective surface, not shooting through one.

I like it! Thanks for sharing!
