Description

I took some shots of this egret in flight and the stayed with it after it landed. I liked the context here.

All comments are welcome.

Technical Details

ISO 10,000, 560mm, f/8, 1/2500th. I’m aware that the settings are all wrong. I had the camera set for birds in flight. The ISO was set on auto. This egret landed in the shade. I didn’t have time to fiddle with the settings so I kept shooting. It’s a good thing that noise reduction software has made great strides.

Well, I think you ended up with a very pleasant egret takeoff shot. Looks like a very inviting locale. Big thumbs up from me.

Thanks, Dave. I’m pleased with it.

I love the lean that you were able to catch in this shot, Don. The background and small water feature give this a sense of place. The composition is good with lots of area for the bird to fly into and the colors look to be spot on. You also had nice soft light to play with. The 90 degree leg bend is perfect! Don’t you just love what modern Noise reduction software can do today. I only wish it were just a smidgen sharper but considering the high ISO and likely heavy Noise suppression, it’s understandable.

Thanks, David.

“Don’t you just love what modern Noise reduction software can do today?” It’s amazing. You can get shots that would have been impossible twenty years ago.

Nice landing pose in a pleasing setting, Don. Good job in staying on the egret.

To me the pose and setting make this image, Don. Catching that wonderful forward lean is an accomplishment and the setting shows it off much better than it it had been in the water or reeds.

Allen, thanks.

Dennis, thanks for commenting. I knew I had a good background. I sensed that the bird would move on. The shutter was on “high speed continuous” and I kept shooting. I expected the best shot would be shortly after takeoff but that one turned out to be a dud. This one had tension going for it.

Hi Don, I love the surroundings in this image. It all works well for a great composition. The rock outcrop on the right and foliage combine for a wonderful setting. Very nice takeoff pose of the bird too.

Wonderful capture!! The pose and environment are special!

NR has made great strides, but there is still some variability in different software and settings. I’m hoping “sharpening” will catch up soon – it has a way to go.
