I saw this butterfly at the resort’s garden this past weekend. I rarely get to see these so was pretty excited. It flew to a button bush and started nectaring in the shade so I used my pop up flash for this shot (didn’t have my speedlite attached).

Allen, I don’t think I’ve seen a Red Admiral before, or if I have, don’t recognize it. I certainly never saw one hanging upside down on a button bush (not familiar with that either). You managed the lighting very well with the pop-up flash. Nice colors and details in the BF and the perch, and the BG doesn’t look too dark with the flash. Well done. I sure was disappointed with the delay in us getting the R7’s.
Oh really? Who did you order from? I ordered from B&H on May 27th when I watched a few videos of what the camera could do. So, I’m probably 3 days behind when you ordered yours.
@Shirley_Freeman , I ordered from B&H right when I saw the announcement email @ 12:50am that day. A friend ordered his later that morning and did not receive his order. B&H told him the initial stock they received was quite small.
Hopefully you will get yours soon.
Although I have seen Red Admiral butterflies around here (maybe they’re common in Central Texas), I have never seen one upside down. Add to that the button bush is also upside down. That is an amazing photo! You got a “twofer” there. I also like the details on the butterfly wings and great color contrast with the BG. The Red Admiral stands out against the dark green.
