Red-breasted Nuthatch

A different pose from the classic upside down one. I was lucky he posed long enough for me to get off the shot as they rarely stay still.

Specific Feedback Requested: I did clean up the background a lot as it was too busy with branches and bright areas, cloning in colors already present.

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

Canon R5; 100-500 at 500 mm; 1/1000 at f7.1; ISO 500

Hi Allen, these guys are really fast and you did well to get focused on this one so well. I can only seem to get them at set ups myself. I love seeing the tongue with the slight head turn toward us.

Very good Allen. A nice pose and the open beak and tongue are nice bonuses.

I have tried all winter long to get a Red-breasted Nuthatch in the crosshairs, and have yet to succeed! You certainly nailed this one. Looks like 7.1 @ 500mm was no problem with lots of available light. He’s surrounded by a nice environment, too. A really nice photo.

Superb job on the colors here. I like to pose and the open mouth and beak. Background works well. These guys are pretty fast.
