I was hunting mushrooms when I came across this little fellow. He was travelling surprisingly fast. There is plenty of evidence (beautiful scalloped-shape patterns) on the eucalypt trees where he’d been.
Glennie, I see the triangle for the nature’s geometry, but what is it? It looks like some kinda slug, I have never seen anything like it. I do like how sharp it is. What is the red triangle? I assume that the front is the two antennas. Pretty cool, different,
THANKS
Yes. It’s a Red Triangle Slug (Triboniophorus graeffei) , a terrestrial pulmonate gastrop
It’s Australia’s largest native land slug. The distinctive red triangle on its back contains the breathing pore, which is slightly obsure in this image. The front protusions are his “eyestalks”. The stalks give him a better field of view. Pretty cool.
Cool capture! This looks like a very well-fed slug! The red marking is striking. I wondered if I saw a wound toward the back on our right, which made me wonder if the triangle was a battle scar, but obviously not.
My first reaction was, “Who puts lipstick on a slug… ).” I figured that it was natural, but it’s amazingly red and cleanly triangular. A neat find for this week’s Challenge.
