Diane’s comments made me want to revisit this gull image take it out of the studio and place it back in its beach environment. I did Photoshop out a few annoying items like other gull legs and misc. beach litter. I placed the images together for easier comparison. I still like the head original shot. As always comments and opinion are appreciated

I think this is a natural-looking BG. You might burn down the gray sand in the 2 lower corners and the rock outlines in the UR and get closer to the “cutout” version. I’d leave a hint of the rocks and beach debris, though, to give some depth and context.
I like the closeup shot the best, Stephen. It shows the essence of the bird and is quite striking with the black background.
The repost works a lot better. The subtle surroundings make the image far more interesting than the straight black background. Nice job!
