River Still Foggy

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A few minutes after the Magic Appearance happened, the fog settled in again, and the photo I wanted of the river running through the slightly colored trees was not going to happen. The default processing of the exposure is attached. As the photo and I talked over a few days, the notion emerged that the textures could be the interesting. So, here you go.
If I had been more thoughtful, a careful HDR approach would have been time well spent.

Specific Feedback

Notwithstanding the circuitous route to get the BW rendition, I would like to hear your thoughts on the busyness of all the details.

I think the details in the lower half of the photo with the fogginess in the upper gives a very literal “atmospheric” feeling to the photo! The comp is nice, pulling my eye along with the flow of the river.

Whatever your technique was to convert to B&W and extract the detail works well for me!
