Rock Ness Monster

Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

In 2008 Chrissy and I made one of our many trips to Rocky Mountain NP. On this particular morning I got up well before dawn to make my way up Trail Ridge Road for the sunrise. Just as I was setting up I noticed the elusive Rock Ness Monster looking over his domain. I was pretty scared but thought I might be able to pull off a shot or two. I was concerned that the sound of the shutter might alert him to my presence but fortunately the wind carried the sound and my scent away from him. I was able to get fairly close before I decided not to press my luck further. A pretty harrowing experience but one which I recall fondly. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Taken with my second Sony DSLR. I had converted from Minolta and was so thankful that Sony entered the DSLR fray. At that time I was still concerned about Sony staying the course but as time has proven they not only have endured but are driving innovations that I couldn’t even imagine then.

Technical Details

Sony A700
Minolta 24-85 @ 60mm
ISO 200, 1/8 @ f11

Love it, especially the title…
Definitely looks like a rock monster.
Great sunset in the BG

I like the simplicity, the color combination and the sharpness of this image. Just for fun I tried a slightly different composition. Often with animals it adds interest to have extra negative space in the direction they are looking or moving (as you know). The image is great as it is, but this composition might be something to consider.

Very nice. Just a little detail in the silhouette and the BG sky is great.
Great find, glad you survived to show us this image

Bill, I remember this monster… I like how it’s waving at the rising sun.
