Ruby-crowned Kinglet and re-post

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image makes me think of walking through a forest with sunlight streaming through the branches. I was lucky to get the kinglet out in the open and still for a fraction of a second.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Superb detail and a lovely scene, Allan. You could pull the highlights on the eye ring down and the same for the bright spots on the perch to the right of the bird. Those are my only nits on a beautiful image.

What Dennis said! But for me the slightly brownish cast feels off – like a filter of some sort. I’d tweak the Temp and Tint in raw and see how it looks. If this was Auto WB, it will give false results in an image that does not have a range of colors.

Thanks @Dennis_Plank and @Diane_Miller for your suggestions. I’ve re-posted with those suggestions in mind.

Very nice job on the repost, Allan.

Ooh the repost is gorgeous - lot’s more natural color rendition and the luminosity is even, but it’s still apparent it was dappled light (my favorite kind). And boy do I know what you’re saying about how fast and flitty these guys are. Nice shot for sure. The soft feathers make me want to touch one. Fat chance!

Splendid scene. It conveys the senso of the forest, you have the (needleleaf) tree, the lichens, the bird, all together a glimpse of ecosystem… Very nice. The colors are splendid, especially in the repost (which is well balanced). A pleasant natural scene!
